Update, 2015-03-27
It was stated at the meeting that the DGRi is reasonably confident they have acquired funding for improvements to the under/over pass at Bridge & Scribner/Mt. Vernon through a "conditional commitment" from MDOT. If the funding becomes available construction on the improvements would begin in September or October of this year [2015]. The scope of this project is specifically the pedestrian infrastructure of the two intersections outside of the street curbs; this includes the condition of the under/over passes as well as the encompassed non-utilized space [the gaps created by the interstate]. These improvements will include lighting.
Rockford Construction did a short presentation of the future street-scape. The upcoming development of the multi-use buildings at Bridge & Mt. Vernon includes residential, retail, and office space. This well known development - known primarily by one of the future tenants: New Holland Brewery - is only the cornerstone for the redevelopment they have planned, it serves as the south east cornerstone of an ambitious development which extends to Seward and 2nd. Rockford Construction and the DGRi intend to use the over/under passes on Bridge St. to construct a gateway to the west side.
